Botox works for chronic migraines

Botox is effective for chronic migraines, according to a statement released by Allergan, maker of Botox.  The company reported that a large multi-center trial (the New York Headache Center was one of the trial sites) yielded positive results.  This report did not surprise us or our colleagues who routinely use Botox in treating patients with chronic migraines.  The excitement we feel is due to the fact that many of our colleagues have been skeptical about the efficacy of Botox.  Much more importantly, we hope that this definitive study will compel insurance companies to pay for this treatment.

I just received my first botox injections 12 days ago and have not had a migraine. I had chronic migraines for over 30 years – have tried everything out there – every doctor and finally this works. I don’t like the price though and pray that the insurance companies begin paying for it asap. They should because if you take in consideration all the other expenses they do approve for migraines this will be less in the long run. Employees will miss less work and not be fog brained like from the pills we must take to exist. I’m hoping that it does last 6 mos. I was told 3-6 mos. I am now planning to do things, go places which I could never do because I never knew if I was going to be down and need to cancel. If you have them you got to try this too. This is going to be a life changing experience for me.
